Fall Beauty Trends

The fall runways walked in way back in February but now that summer has come to a close, and the temperatures have dropped, we get to pull out our fall beauty bag of tricks! Dreamy velvet skin, that big, bold brow and of course, an annual favourite, the vampy lip, are the three trends, I for one, cannot wait to rock this season.

It’s always all about the skin, isn’t it? That creamy, perfectly hydrated, mildly matte complexion is the base of a really pulled together, elegant look. At the Victoria Beckham fall 2013 show, dewy skin was replaced with a semi-matte, velvety finish. Getting skin smooth, supple and perfected isn’t an overnight feat – consistent skin care is the cornerstone of balanced skin that takes makeup well.

Start off by keeping the skin exfoliated with Dermalogica Microfoliant. Sloughing off those dry patches will give you a smooth canvas on which to apply makeup.Treating skin with Retinol (Vitamin A) is, by far, the most effective weapon for smooth and plump skin. StriVectin-AR™ Advanced Retinol Night Treatment is the powerhouse that, when applied regularly, will promote cell turnover and collagen production… both of which are essential for glowing skin.Finishing the skin with foundation, look for a creamy texture for that velvety finish. Long-lasting formulations like NARS Radiant Cream Compact Foundation will give the skin that radiant, semi-matte finish.

Ladies, put down those tweezers, and step away from the magnifying mirror. Bold brows walked quite a few fall 2013 runways, and the models at DVF showcased the trend in style. For some of us (like me!), bodacious brows are a way of life, but if your brows are a little more on the sparse side of things, adding volume and pigment is the ultimate dream team.

Tame and tint brows with Benefit’s Speed Brow or NARS Brow Gel, the latest rage in brow makeup. The gel formulation of these products actually plump up each little hair, giving them a little control, too. The mascara style wand grabs even the finest little hairs to add a soft touch.

Pro tip: going one shade darker on the brows (yes, even you blondes), adds youth to the face and enhances the eyes the way a good set – of brows – should!

At Vera Wang, models’ lips were the center of attention and were paired with a completely naked face. No mascara? Not even a dab of blush? Not with this look! Pulling off a dark and moody lip takes confidence, prowess, and, of course, a mini-lesson in technique can’t hurt. Evening out the complexion with your usual foundation to dull any redness and filling in your brows for that certain polish, are key features of this look to really let those deeply pigmented lips take center stage.

Use a thin coat of concealer like Benefit Erase Paste as a base on the lips – this prevents bleeding, and gives the lip colour something to grab on to ensuring maximum wear.Crisp up that lip line, and use M.A.C Vino Lip Pencil on the natural inner lip line.  Apply one coat of Revlon Wine Not lip colour, blot lips with a tissue, and go in with a second coat of lipstick to really give the pigment lasting power.
