A Sophisticated Bedroom

I am thrilled to share this incredible primary bedroom makeover for our team member Erin. When Sherwin-Williams asked us to transform a space with their 2022 Color of the Year Evergreen Fog SW 9130, we right away thought of Erin! She adores the color green, and always up for a little change! Plus we love to include our team in our design projects, it’s so fun! Our overall goal was to not only paint out the room with a new color, but to also create a space that felt timeless and sophisticated, reflecting Erin’s favourite design elements and trends. First things first, the tone of the room was set by the colour we used on the walls, which made the rest of the design naturally fall into place. This mid-tone blend of green and grey transformed what was a plain space lacking character with subtle but modern colour. And a natural “wow” factor that moment you step into the room.

Let’s start with some before photos so you can see what I’m talking about!

As you can tell the bedroom already had some good elements and bones! A grounding shiplapped back wall, beautiful arched upholstered bed and large window that let in lots of natural light. The room isn’t that large, so we wanted to make sure it still felt inviting and spacious.

Let’s start with the window! Drapery is not only a great way to elevate your space, but it’s also a great way to make the room feel larger by adding hight by installing your rod higher then the actual window frame. Which of course makes the room feel bigger! I knew I wanted to use our MH Mable fabric in color Olive, because it complimented the paint color so well! And, it added depth and movement to an otherwise large window that previously had a stock blind. The hand-drawn floral pattern of the fabric paired well with brass hardware, again elevating the room.

Erin already had an upholstered bed with a gentle arc, giving it a more traditional feel. The oatmeal fabric picks up beautifully with the green of the walls. The bedding, we kept it simple in whites, taupes – a classic choice and something Erin really wanted. For pops of colour, we added accent pillows in matching fabric to the drapery as well as a grey velvet lumbar pillow at the front. The layered back lace grey pillowcases were the finishing touch, adding another texture and interest.

Because there was already paneling on the main feature wall, I wanted to not only paint the paneling and walls, but also the trim, baseboard and doors for a bolder look. Very English farmhouse.

In lieu of traditional table lamps, we went with our wall-mounted Dorset wall sconces. We absolutely love the way they draw your eye and add an elevated design aspect to the decor. They are even more beautiful in person with wrapped rattan over brass and a neatly pleated line shade.

Because the back wall isn’t that big width wise and Erin’s bed is a king size, we had to be conscious of the size of the nightstands. The ones we picked fit like a glove! The black-washed mango wood nightstands brought a touch of colour contrast to the space without being too dark. The rattan front adds the right amount of texture, and the stand itself has nice interior storage. Again, we didn’t have to worry about space for the lamp, so there was room for decor and functionality!

When designing a room, I always like to add a rug to ground the space. The rug we chose is purposefully neutral so it didn’t compete with the pattern of the drapery or other elements in the room.

We also added an accent chair and floor lamp for a cozy, relaxed reading nook. This room is truly a retreat that Erin and her family already love! Even their sweet pup Buddy wanted to cozy in!

The room colour, Evergreen Fog SW 9130, worked so nicely in this bedroom, soothing and a sense of calm. Perfect for a room to escape to!  As a versatile colour, it could work in virtually any place within your home. Beyond your primary bedroom, it would look beautiful on cabinetry. Coloured cabinetry is on trend right now, and choosing an organic colour like Evergreen Fog is a great choice for bringing timeless colour into your kitchen.

This colour would also be charming in a little kid’s room. Imagine pulling from the beautiful green undertones and adding floral accents! Similarly for a laundry or mudroom, the nostalgic shade is ideal as a backdrop to build natural textures and shades over.

Thank you to Sherwin-Williams for sponsoring this post. All opinions and views are my own.
