Time to Sew!

Fall always seems to bring out my crafty side. There’s something about cooler weather and shorter days that makes me want to grab a warm cup of tea, get cozy, and start creating. If you’re looking for a fun and really simple DIY to take on, napkins, pillows and table runners are a great place to begin. These are all pretty straightforward to make even for beginners but the process is so satisfying. Even Lillya jumps in and helps, we make it into a little date- she loves it!  Start with fabric that inspires you. Walmart home has a great selection of fabrics, everything from a simple check, to a subtle floral print, I know you will find something that sparks your interest. Walmart also has some amazing projects too if you are needing a little more inspiration , you can find more project inspo here!

I put together a few essentials below for you if you are looking to get started with sewing at home. This machine is a great starter machine and can handle all the basics you will need. It’s lightweight, durable, and has all the helpful features you’ll want without being overwhelming. If you’re a little more experienced and looking to upgrade to a high-end professional machine, this model is perfect for advanced sewers. You can even use it for embroidery, which I would love to try to make some monogram napkins for all the upcoming holiday tablescapes.

Good scissors are also key to any good crafting project, especially sewing. You can find a wide range of sewing scissors, including this pretty gold pair that looks so elegant on your crafting table. Be sure to stock up on other sewing essentials like measuring tape, extra thread, and a cutting mat to protect your work surface and keep all your tools in good shape.

Another project I’m looking to tackle will be pennants for the kid’s room (think fun commemorative flags) and holiday-themed ones to pin up on the pinboard. They can be as easy or complicated as you want, and you can add cute patterns, mix fabrics, or create different silhouettes.

I hope this gets you inspired to start sewing!
