There is something so magical about a winter wedding, even more so with a fresh dusting of romantic snow. With a couple of weddings just behind us from this past summer and a handful still to come, I am always thinking for the perfect gifts to give the happy couple to be. I think not only about what would be useful for them to use, but also about sentiment and a thoughtful gift to love for the years to come.
It’s no secret that I love to entertain; I love having friends and family over at our home to gather around the table (or kitchen island) it truly is one of my favorite things. Many will say that it’s one of the things you look forward to the most as a newly married couple, hosting friends and family in your new dwelling space. That is definitely true for Troy and I, we have enjoyed entertaining since we were married ten years ago. Therefore, I’m always thinking of items that we ourselves use to host, and that would also be a welcomed addition to any newlyweds home.
Many newlyweds will embark upon hosting family holidays and dinner parties which means they will most likely be setting a table. Think about gifting pieces that will be helpful to entertain and create beautiful tablescapes to welcome their guests. Anything from classic dinnerware, large serving platters, and of course the perfect glassware that are sure to be at the top of any bride-to-be’s list! So you might be asking what is my most common entertaining item to gift? The answer is quite simple, a quality set of wine glasses, champagne classes or a unique set of cocktail glasses.
Riedel products have been my go-to wine and cocktail glasses for years, they’ve been proven to be a favourite in our home, glassware that’s well made and will stand the test of time. I personally love adding in layers of glassware with varying styles and heights to a table, it adds interest and really fills out the table for a complete look. Perhaps choose gifting a perfect set of classic bordeaux wine glasses, alongside these fun Sour Glass coupes which would look great as part of a setting or displayed on a bar cart or cabinet. Oh and don’t forget about everyday traditional glassware, such as these Cabernet & Merlot Wine Glasses. tThey are my go to and some of my favorites from the Riedel collection.
If you yourself are starting to plan your own registry, Macy’s is truly amazing; they have everything from the perfect accents to decorate your space, tools for the savvy chef, and of course, all those key pieces for entertaining friends and family for years to come. The registry system is easy to use and has so many perks, you can find stores across America making it hassle-free for any one of your guests looking to gift you something perfect on your special day, even your Canadian guests sending gifts from across the border.
I adore wrapping gifts with intention, simple yet beautiful white craft paper tied up with silk ribbons, adding a monogram ornament will elevate your gift and show that little extra attention to detail.
If you are planning your own registries, make sure to take an inventory of what you and your partner already have, or want to upgrade to. This will give you a great start on finding out what is missing and help you form the perfect registry. I always recommend going together too, make it into a fun date day, you’ll find quite entertaining to see what each thinks is important to own.
Pick a colour scheme or finish early on; this will help ensure you are both on the same page and will help to give a cohesive look in your home. We still love to stick to neutrals and whites with small pops of colour like a french blue for a timeless look. This little tip will also easily carry your items for years to come, not focusing too much on the trends.
Get the classic pieces to host with ease and style, dinnerware, flatware, small appliances such toasters, coffee machines, waffles makers, stand up mixers, blender… just to name a few. Don’t forget classic linens like napkins and tablecloths and of course glassware!
We hope the above helps you find the perfect gift for this year’s wedding or to help curate your own perfect registry! It can seem stressful, but I promise you it’s a lot of fun!
